Our Educators

“Tell me and I’ll forget; show me and I may remember; involve me and I’ll understand.”
– Chinese proverb

Our Head Educators are trained Ontario teachers, Early Childhood Educators or trained in Forest and Nature School Education. Our facilitator team have the attributes of what we want to see in our young people. We hire teachers, parents, naturalists, community organizers, musicians, artists, students, farmers, storytellers, social workers and personal support workers. We take pride in our unique group of facilitators.

Our team is passionate about providing nature connection programs for people of all ages and experience in the York Region area. With the guidance of our facilitators, participants are inspired to: be curious, explore nature, ask questions, build connections, try new things, overcome challenges and of course have fun! Participants form a deep relationship with nature and experience transformative personal growth.

Mariah Kontopoulos (Owner, Educator)

B.PHE, B.Ed, OCT, Forest and Nature School Practitioner, Camp Director, YTT 200 & Kids Yoga Instructor

A writer, wanderer, thinker, educator and mother – Mariah envisions a world where every child has the opportunity to explore, learn and immerse themselves in their own passions and connect intimately with nature. She believes in giving each child the time and space to learn who they are and how they learn, and nurture their unique curiosities through play.
Mariah works hard to recognize and dismantle the barriers that prevent youth from benefiting from nature immersion programs. She holds a strong belief that an early and authentic connection to nature and freedom of play are the building blocks to a lifelong journey of self awareness.

Peter Chris Tsioros (Educator)

B.PHE, B.Ed, OCT, Owner of Kidz Can Play Inc.

Peter Chris loves being outside in the woods observing the kids play. Through this observation, Peter loves to bring in new innovative ideas to the program that extends their learning. He loves facilitating a hands-on approach with the children and is a self learned wood worker. Along with his role as an ILC educator, he also works behind the scenes on programming and the technical aspects of the business. He’s a dad to two children and loves getting out in nature with them! Peter’s hope is that Ignited Learning Centre evolves and grows with a changing world, delivering learning
opportunities that are fun, effective, relevant, and as accessible and welcoming as possible.

Her background in developing inclusive programs for people of all ages and abilities are skills that we wish to continue to leverage at Ignited Learning Centre.
